Have my heart set on a kamado -- what do I need to know?

I just moved into a new place, and finally have the space to grill! Been dying to get a BGE for years, and while my wallet won't quite allow that yet, the Akorn seems to be a fit for what I'm looking for.

I mostly grill the typical burgers/hot dogs/steaks, but really looking to get into smoking and pizzas. Is it true that kamados aren't great for the typical stuff?

What accessories do I need to purchase with it? Can anyone point me to a guide for getting setup for my first cook?

Any advice/direction would be great appreciated.
