Convert crimped regulator connection to threaded?

My grill has a shit regulator (Char-Broil's infamous safety regulator that always trips for no reason) and the hose from the regulator to the burner manifold is crimped on. I want to convert it to standard flare nut connection. I've got a hose crimper, so I was going to cut the existing hose between the existing manifold crimp and the regulator and crimp on a male flare connection so I can use a generic grill regulator with a threaded connection.

My only real questions are, would the hose use a 1/2" barb or 3/8" barb, and should I even bother with a crimp or just pop on a hose clamp? I mean, the hose is only rated to 1 psi, so you'd think a hose clamp is more than enough and that's a lot easier than taking the thing apart to get the crimper around it.
