Hi guys, I have posted a creation of mine here in the past, but I'm relatively new to the grilling game. I bought my house a couple of years ago and never really grilled before then, I just watched my dad do it and "learned" from him. Really though, my dad is not that great on the grill, he direct heats everything and it is either burnt to a crisp or just generally not that good (my dad doesn't even know what Reddit is, so I think I'm safe).
I've tried combinations of brats (Johnsonville, local chain HyVee store made, local butcher) but I can't seem to find the right combination of brats and cooking style. Usually I do better with the non-frozen, fresh Johnsonville brats, but I either have the grill (Weber 22 inch kettle) too hot, too cold, or don't have vents correct, etc. I've also tried the beer bath in different stages of cooking yet can never quite do it right and when searing tend to split the casings.
I know this is probably a simple cook for most, but the simplest things that I can never get right really piss me off! How do you cook your brats and not split the casings?
