I won a $500 Amazon gift card and I want to get a charcoal grill, preferably with smoking capability. Nothing against propane (sorry Hank). I'd like to have both, but those combo units are more expensive for less grill space. This is my first grill, so I'd like to set aside maybe $100 for grilling accessories (suggestions on those also welcome). I do have Prime so most options have free shipping.
So far I like the Char-Griller 1224 Smokin Pro https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009NU5YY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.ngyBbBF20CE4 But it seems it needs modifications to be more effective, like installing better quality temp gauges at grill level, improved seals on doors, and adding ductwork to bring the smokestack opening lower to the grill surface. I'm handy so I can manage, I'm just always busy/lazy.
A better quality model would be nice, but I'm not seeing many options to choose from. I've already checked, I can't buy a gift card for somewhere else (Lowes/Home Depot) with this gift card, that would have helped with options.
Any suggestions?
